Friday Thought

When you look up at the night sky and see all the stars. Thinking of the possibility that some of those stars might have planets that support life. Despite the number of stars, planets and galaxies that exist in the universe each one of us is unique. We should make the most of this life as it is precious and special.

Curzon update

oh my goodness I'm making a post on LJ.. i know this is a rare event.

Just letting everyone know that things are going good. I'm quite busy but it's nothing that can't be handled.

My mum and Annie (my dog) got home Monday last week. Mum was away for 11 months on family business and Annie was away for 6 months.

Torchwood (my horse) is doing well. He is such a gentle natured horse. Rumours of his death are greatly exaggerated. He is fit, happy and healthy and very much alive. If anyone has heard otherwise then you have heard false information. I see and feed him on a daily basis

I'm really enjoying the new season of Doctor Who.

Cosplay continues as normal. I seem to be doing more costumes this year then normal. I will have to check to see how many I have done up til now.

Trusting More

Yay Torchwood is becoming more trusting of me. Yesterday I got to pat him quite a bit. Then I noticed a fly right near his eye (I am getting him a fly vaile very soon) I brushed several flies off him while I was standing with him and he did not run off or go silly. I'm still so excited and happy that he is able to trust me more.

Telethon 2007

As some of you may know I have been volunteering at Telethon this year. To me it feels like a convention, disrupted sleep and food on the run :)

Saturday:

Got to the Sunday Times at about 3pm. The first couple of hours was mad. Having to finish putting things together taking chairs around the place, hanging fairy light up out the front of the building. I used to work security at the Sunday Times so I was already aware of the security system. The system was going crazy with alarms everywhere so I was running around getting them sorted out. The phone system went down for 45 mins which was not my problem. I also outside of my telethon duties helped someone become reunited with a friend they got separated from in the city. I got back to the hotel at about 2:30am and went to bed.

Sunday:

Woke up at 9am and had breakfast. I was back down the Sunday Times at Midday. I did a bit of running around making sure everyone was being fed and watered. The normal job of telling idiots they can not park in the reserved bays continued, people are idiots you would think that no parking signs and witches hats would be enough to deter them but obviously not. Also showed the various acts and guests up to the phone room. As things started to wind down the clean up started. Moving coffee machines and fridges Taking down signs and fences. We finished at about 7:30pm and grabbed something to eat and went back to the hotel.

The final total for Telethon 2007 was $6,527,576 which included $500,000 from the Commonwealth Govenment.

next event is the first weekend in November the "Race Weekend" The PANIC Race around Perth and the Red Bull Air Race.

fun at work and pepsi

Decided to have random fun at work today. Aaron and I had to cut about 90 air-con filters so we made a game of it. We had a "cut off". We had three rounds and equal number of filters each round. We had to see who could cut them out the fastest. I won the first two rounds but Aaron wanted to prove that he could beat me so he still wanted the last round. In the last round I beat him by seven squares.

After work went and fed the kids, now I'm in the hotel in the city ready for my volunteer work with Telethon. I went to get a drink of Pepsi and the bottle fizzed over..opppps think my brain is tired.

Should be a good weekend. I will be kept busy with Telethon and the horses.

In hand

Torchwood had some more training today.

He had another tying up lesson. Then while tied up he had his first brush down (it was a snow storm of winter coat coming off him). Then he was put in a nice holter and we took some photos.

However the amazing thing was still to come. He did some in hand work for the first time ever and he took to it very quickly. He is a very smart boy and is learning very quickly.

My thanks to his trainer for her fantastic work she is doing with him.

Cosmic Ballet

Perth residents will have a rare opportunity to see a lunar eclipse in which the moon will turn dark blood red, tomorrow evening.

At 5.52pm tomorrow afternoon the full moon will rise while it is in the shadow of the Earth, but instead of being
a deep golden yellow, as it appears over the horizon it should have a dark coppery-red colour.

As the moon rises higher it will gradually start to move out of Earth's shadow.

Around 7.22pm viewers should notice a bright patch appearing on the lower edge of the moon, and an hour later all of the moon will have left Earth's shadow and it may look dark
grey on the western side.

By 9.22pm the eclipse will be over and a bright silvery moon will be seen high in the sky.

Lunar eclipses are safe to look at, you don’t need any special equipment. The moon will
be rising at 96 degrees azimuth, so almost due east.

Although these events happen a couple of times each year, it has been several years since an
evening lunar eclipse was visible from Perth.

Horse flu

Every horse owner (including me) have been asked to keep their horses at home in their paddocks until at least Tuesday due to the out break of Horse Flu in Australia. The entire Horse Industry in Australia is closed down.

Please anyone in Australia with a horse. Keep them at home for all our sakes if we all follow the lock down and the guide lines for good hygiene the flu will pass more quickly.

-------------------------------------------------------

Equine flu is a highly infectious respiratory disease only affecting horses, which can result in death among vulnerable animals.

Like flu in humans, the equine influenza (EI) virus can spread rapidly through a horse population by airborne contact.

Not all horses will die, but many can become extremely sick for several weeks, with others developing complications such as pneumonia.

Healthy horses will often just show signs of a fever and cough, although their performance, particularly that of thoroughbred racers, can be affected for weeks.

Symptoms can also include sneezing and nasal discharge and usually appear about three days after a horse is infected.

Humans can't contract equine flu, but can inadvertently spread it if they are sneezed or coughed on by an infected horse. The virus does not survive long in the environment.

Australia and New Zealand had been among the few countries with large equine populations yet to be exposed to EI. As a result, no horses have been vaccinated against the virus.

Air travel among horses has made the virus more easily spread. Its most recent outbreak has been in Japan, where horses have tested positive to the H3N8 strain of the virus.

According to the Australian Horse Industry Council (AHIC), several horses from Japan have been imported to Australia in recent weeks.

Many of them are sought-after sires, who travel the world fulfilling breeding contracts, often at hundreds of thousands of dollars a service. The horses are in quarantine at Eastern Creek in NSW and Spotswood in Victoria.

AHIC chairman Barry Smyth said other horse shipments from overseas have been delayed as a result of the outbreak.

"AHIC considers these to be prudent measures to protect the current health status of the Australian horse herd," he said. "Horse owners should be careful in routine observation of their horses and report immediately any unusual clinical signs to their veterinary practitioner."

Nothing fazes you...until someone starts picking on somebody you love. Then you get all intense and pull a face not unlike an angry bullpup. Yeah, it's hard to take you seriously sometimes, but you're nobody's fool. Your turn-ons include pinstripes, Douglas Adams, incoherent mumbling, Elvis, Scots accents, and Kylie Minogue, apparently. We thought putting him to sleep was the best thing for him.

While I am sad by his loss. I knew one day it would come because I knew I would out live him. I have to comfort of my Eternal Love Ashley to keep my heart safe at this time.

Letting go of my best friend of 14 years was not hard and I have a grieving to go through.
Astro upodate

Wow Im making a post...

My Boy is not well again and this time it is quite bad. He can not hold his food down he has been throwing up everything he eats. He has lost about half his body weight. We do not know what is causing that.

He is also very slow and lathagic which is mainly due to old age. He will be 14 in a couple of weeks.

At this time we are taking things one day at a time. Which is all we can do. I don't want to see him suffer though. If It comes down to it and we need to seriously look at putting him to sleep the family have totally agreed that is best for him so he does not suffer.
